South Korea to Invest in Construction of LRT Jakarta Phase 1B

Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono accompanied the South Korean Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation Minister Won Hee-Ryong and his entourage to try out the LRT Phase 1A, Velodrome Station to Pegangsaan Dua Station route, then ending at the Jakarta LRT Depot, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, Friday (3/17).

This is part of a national strategic project

During the trip, he said, the purpose of this trip with Minister Hee-Ryong was to introduce the LRT Jakarta Phase 1A and the first step to start investing in the next phase of development projects.

"Today, the minister tried the LRT Phase 1A to Pegangsaan Dua Station. As planned, the Jakarta Provincial Government will continue the next route, from Velodrome Station to Manggarai Station which has 6.4 kilometers long. For construction, the auction will begin in June 2023," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

City Commits to Realizing LRT Velodrome - Manggarai

Aside that, in the next planning phase, several location points have been set that aim to facilitate access for residents' mobility in their daily activities and to support the growth of the economy in Jakarta.

"The location determination is already in the planning. This is part of a national strategic project which is being continued to improve mass transportation facilities in Jakarta, thereby helping the mobility of residents and boosting the pace of the economy," he explained.

While Minister Won Hee-Ryong was very enthusiastic about enjoying the trip with the ranks of the Jakarta  Government when trying out the LRT Phase 1A route. He also appreciated the LRT Jakarta operation and was ready to help Indonesia bring in investors from the Land of Ginseng, in the continuation of the LRT project in Indonesia.

"Today, I tried the LRT Phase 1A together with the Governor. I think this phase has been running very successfully in Indonesia. For the next phase, we will make every effort, such as inviting potential investors to take part in tenders for the next phase of the LRT construction. We will always prioritize the principle of mutual trust, and prioritize the family spirit when working with Indonesia," he expressed.

He furthered that South Korea and Indonesia are two friendly countries that have had good relations for about 50 years. He deemed the enthusiasm of the Indonesian people to be very high in improving their welfare. It also affects increasing the mobility of citizens, especially when carrying out economic activities.

"To achieve economic growth, massive activities are needed to push the economy in an advanced direction. It also creates high mobility among residents. To support it, adequate mass transportation is needed," he furthered.

As for the information, LRT Jakarta with Velodrome - Manggarai route is expected to smoothen people's mobility and encourage the integration of modes of public transportation in Jakarta, such as the KAI Commuter Line and MRT Jakarta, in line with the process of preparing Manggarai Station as a central station where various modes of public transportation meet.

The LRT Phase 1B construction is a concrete manifestation of the Acting Governor's Priority Program, especially in controlling congestion in Jakarta. Because success in the development of mass public transportation in Jakarta will drive Indonesia's economic progress and growth.
